Hello to the HMI BC team,
Foggy weather on the Connector
Welcome to the last edition of HMI BC newsletter for 2008... (I will combine December and January '09 in the next edition.) Goodness, has this year ever flown by! It has been so good, and I am grateful to the Lord for His leading and protection throughout all the meetings, chapels and kilometers of road that have been a part of HMI BC in 2008.
So ... here is the November Top '10':
Hockey friends at Victoria Boston Pizza
On the first Sunday, I traveled to Penticton and spoke at Bethel Church. The interim pastor, Garry Fricker, was very warm and welcoming. I have known Garry and his wife Jean since 1981 when Lorraine and I served in Victoria as Youth Pastors under their leadership. The second Sunday found me in Victoria, speaking at North Douglas Church. Pastor Dave Webster was just wonderful.. (He is a real fun guy... we had lots of fun!) While in Victoria, I had an opportunity to speak with the Assistant Coach of the Junior A Grizzlies, which was a miracle in itself. While at a Grizzlies game, and after praying and wandering around the arena during the second period intermission, the Lord lead me someone I knew who pointed me to someone else...and so on. I was determined to speak to one of the Coaches that night, and that is exactly what happened! My purpose for desiring to meet with the Grizzlies was to kick-start the their chapel program. Our HMI chaplain Chris Pollock has informed me that there is a chapel now scheduled with the club. Thanks you Jesus! Later, I traveled up the Island to Comox where I met with the ownership of the Junior B club there. The meeting went very well and I believe we will have a new chapel program in Comox in the fall of 2009.
In Abbotsford with my very serious son, Lane
When I returned to Kelowna, I had the chance to speak to all the players and their parents, plus Coaches, Owners and all the billet families associated with my club here in Westside. I felt the response was just wonderful.
I have had the awesome privilege to speak to a few people in the hockey world who have let me into their world of alcoholism and other dysfunctions. This is where I firmly feel that the Lord is opening blind eyes to the reality of a new life in Him. Please continue to pray, as God is speaking in these deep areas of life.
More Boston Pizza friends
Last Sunday was spent in Abbotsford at Centre Ice Arena, the home of Alderbrook Community Church. Pastors Glen Embree and Emil Fernandes were so very gracious to let me come and speak of the local mission field right in their very own building! (Imagine.. a church in an arena... a bit of heaven..!)
Speaking Sunday morning with chaplain Emil Fernandes
On Friday the 28th, I teamed up with Alberta HMI Rep. John Bechtold, as we visited the Kamloops Blazers chaplain, Zacharie Jean. We had a good breakfast together and then headed back to Kelowna.
I conclude with a great quote by CT Studd. It really does capture my passion for Christ.
"Some want to live within the sound of church or chapel bell.
I want to run a rescue shop within a yard of hell." C.T. Studd
You are loved and appreciated... please have a glorious Jesus-filled Christmas,
