Praise the Lord for summer!
I trust that you are enjoying the sunshine and are relaxing a bit during these warm days.
Dave McCauley and Greg Schmidt
In the summer, the HMI world does not stop, even though there are no games on the ice. These are days of contacting Coaches, establishing new chapel programs, finding new local chaplains and of traveling to churches and speaking about Hockey Ministries International. With all the coaching changes that take place in May/June, there is also a re-establishing of those local chaplaincy programs with the new coaches.
This month has been taken up with meeting local hockey people and ministering to them. At present, I am preparing to perform the marriage of a couple that I only know from the Hockey chaplaincy world. I will be officiating at their wedding on July 18. These are wonderful opportunities and outreaches!
Larry Krause
Earlier in June, I drove to Abbotsford, making the first contact with the new American Hockey League club, the Abbotsford Heat. I ask for prayer that there would be a chapel program established with this new club. While I was in the area, I visited with some of the chaplains in the lower mainland. On the way to Abbotsford, I stopped in Merritt and visited with Greg Schmidt and Dave McCauley. Greg is the chaplain for the Merritt Junior A Centennials and Dave is their trainer. We had a great time together! I also had a first time meeting with Larry Krause. who I pray will be the first chaplain for the new Abbotsford club.
On Friday, June 5, I was invited to give a chapel program report to the British Columbia Hockey League Board of Governors in Surrey. I was pleased to stand before this group of 40 or so and explain the value of chaplaincy programs. Immediately following that, I picked up Lorraine and we drove to the Houston Smithers area of northwest BC. I spoke at Mountain View Assembly in Smithers, and stayed a few days in Houston to visit our family there.
Please pray for the upcoming Faith Night that will happen here, at the Westside Warriors game in November. This is a great opportunity to let people know what the Warriors chaplaincy program is all about.
Thank you for supporting me and HMI with your prayers, finances and friendship. You are part of a support team that stretches from Victoria to Newfoundland. The team is not large, but wonderfully faithful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you know of people who may be willing to support HMI BC, please let me know. My account at HMI has dropped by 60% in the last year or so, and I really do need help. I also realize that individuals and churches are regularly inundated with missions and financial requests, and so I simply leave this with the Lord.
I will be sending out the next HMI BC newsletter at the end of the August. I will combine the two summer months into one report.
God will see us through, I just know it.... because He is faithful and He will do it.
Your missionary in the arena,
Don Richmond
