A Summer time hi-five to the players on the HMI BC team,
New HMI Display
A reminder this month that without prayer, all our labours are in vain.... so please don't back off on prayer.
So here we go: One would think that during the off season, HMI would be a bit quiet, but not so! Much has taken place since the last report at the end of May. Let me try to fill you in.....
Don, Chris, Blake, Emil, Colin
During the first part of the month, I ordered and received a great HMI display that I can use when I speak at churches and other events. It is attractive, modern and easily mobile. It is a blessing to have an up-to-date display for the ministry.
Don and Paolo
The first weekend of June, I had the honour of meeting with a few of the lower mainland chaplains, Chris Wiens, Blake Holenstein, Emil Fernandes and Colin Chornohus. These guys are a wonderful group of dedicated chaplains, and I encourage you to remember them and their ministries in prayer. I also had a meeting with Paolo Aquilini, (a Christian man) who along with his brothers, owns the Vancouver Canucks. I pray that one day we will see a chapel program with the Canucks. A few days later, Lorraine, Lane and I traveled up to Smithers to speak at Mountain View Assembly. Mountain View is a sponsor church, and I appreciate their encouragement and support. On the way home, we stopped in to see Derek and Stephanie Shields, who have always been a wonderful home away from home.
Derek and Stephanie Shields
The next week consisted of meetings with hockey executives as well as with a few younger players who are still in the minor hockey system. I am blessed to be able to meet with these younger boys, to mentor them and help point them in the right direction. I was also busy preparing for my responsibilities in July, when I will lead in worship at the HMI Camp in Moncton, NB. That week I decided to send out 25 emails regarding chaplaincy to the Junior B clubs in BC and just see what the response would be.
Myself and Chuck Mackne
Mid-month saw me take a trip to Trinity Western University in Langley, where I met with Coach Chuck Macknee. We will begin a chapel program with TWU in the fall. Thank you Lord! When I was there, I met with Tim Ibbotson, a young man from Surrey. We chatted about the opportunity of chaplaincy with the Junior A Surrey Eagles, and as the month went on, we agreed that Tim would be the Eagles chaplain. Again, thank you Lord!!
Nelson chaplain Cam and Corinne McFadyen
This past week I traveled to Trail and Nelson in the Kootenay region of BC. There I met with Kent Maddigan, the Trail Smoke Eaters chaplain. Kent is doing a marvelous job with the Smokies; the team and much of the city have grown to trust him and what he represents. Very few chaplains have a team pre-game prayer, but Kent does!! I traveled down the road to Nelson, where I met with Cam and Corinne MacFadyen. The local ministerial had recommended Cam as the first ever chaplain
with Trail chaplain Kent Maddigan
of the Junior B Leafs, and it didn't take long for me to agree. Cam is a Nelson boy who played for the Leafs in his younger days. Once more, thank the Lord!!
Finally, about the 25 emails to the Junior B clubs... well, in 4 days I meet the Coach of the Chase Chiefs Junior B club regarding chaplaincy. Can you say thank you Lord for the 4th time?? AND, AND I received another response from the Peninsula Panthers Coach on Vancouver Island. It just doesn't stop!
Please pray for strength for Lorraine and myself... we are going very hard here. And thank you for your support, we are blessed to have faithful people stand with us like you do.
Still in the action....
