To all the HMI BC team,

I trust that you are enjoying wonderful sunny days, as we head into the heart of the summer... but don't let the toasty temperatures fool you, there are many things still cooking in the HMI kitchen!! I will try to serve up a good tasty dish, with all the good stuff that was on May's menu....

Dan Unrau, Mike
Vanderkwaak, Colin
Chornohus, Emil Fernandes
and myself
Early in the month, I made a trip to the lower mainland, where I met with 4 great chaplains, Dan Unrau with the Vancouver Giants, Mike Vanderkwaak with the Chilliwack Bruins, Emil Fernandes with the Abbotsford Pilots and Colin Chornohus with the Burnaby Express. We had a fabulous time together; I think we all left encouraged. During that same trip, I was excited to sit in on the 2010 Olympic More than Gold committee, where we began to strategize about how we will minister for the Lord, using 2010 Olympic momentum here in BC for Jesus.

I was home just a few days before I headed to Nelson, where I met with the Nelson Ministerial. I expressed that I was looking for a chaplain for the Nelson Leafs. The meeting was beneficial, as we are now getting closer to having a chaplain there.

Over the next week, I met with the new General Manager of my team, the Westside Warriors. Our talks were very warm, and chaplaincy will once again be embraced by the club.

Jan Kascak and me in
the hospital
This has been a miraculous month! In the first week, Jan Kascak, a fine Christian man who was my initial connection in starting a new chapel program with the Penticton Vees, was in a terrible accident. Jan was hit by a car while he was riding his bicycle. It was heart-wrenching to visit him in the hospital. Jan ended up with 13 (I think it was 13) metal plates in his face, just to reconstruct it, 9 broken ribs, a smashed up leg that required a steel rod to repair it, and he had a tracheotomy just to breathe. Jan is now at home... just the amazing power of God!!! I felt the presence of the Almighty when I visited him and his wife Kim.

Norm Sowden (Cowichan
Valley Junior A chaplain)
and Dan Cousins Nanaimo
Clippers Junior A chaplain)
I just came home from a Vancouver island trip, where I met with the Governors of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League. (Junior B) I presented the chaplaincy program to them, and they were quite warm to the concept. I now pray for new chapel programs to open up on the Island.

Greg Schmidt (Merritt
Junior A chaplain)
On a special trip to Merritt, I met with Pastor Greg Schmidt from the Evangelical Free Church there. It looks like he will be taking over the chaplaincy of the Junior A Centennials from Clint Heigh, the long time chaplain of the club, who is now moving to Kamloops. He has done an absolutely excellent job with the Centennials. I am sorry to lose Clint from the HMI chaplaincy family. Maybe there is a new chaplaincy waiting in Kamloops, who knows? I really do look forward to working with Greg, who is keen to keep the chaplaincy in Merritt going strong.

with Sid Ypma (Alberni
Valley Junior A chaplain)
This summer will be a bit insane!! (but good..) I am planning on attending a HMI Summer School in Moncton, NB in late July. I've been asked to be in charge of the worship times as well as other varied responsibilities. I do look forward to that.

ALSO... Lorraine and myself have been offered a trip to a Hillsong Worship Conference in Sydney, Australia! What a blessing that is! We leave on July 3 and return July 13th.

Bless you for your prayer and financial support..... you are a major part of the ministry of HMI BC. To God be the Glory...

Your hockey happy servant for Jesus,
