PRAYER POINTS JANUARY 2008 NEWSLETTER

  • Please remember my Mom and Dad in prayer. She is still battling the effects of her stroke.

  • Remember Brian and Margaret Atkins as well. They are long time supporters of HMI BC, and need a physical touch from the Lord.

  • Pray for a potential HMI Hockey School in the Kootenays.

  • Pray for those new clubs that are softening to the chapel idea. This is only possible with a Divine work of the Spirit.

  • Pray for all of the 13 chaplains in the BCHL. I believe you have them listed in previous monthly emails.

Again, it's your HMI missionary with more tales about the journey...

Mark 11:24 "Whatever you make a request for in prayer, have faith...."

I have to underscore the wonder I have at the Lord's faithfulness. As I hear your stories, your faith journeys, I realize that He is so involved in each of our lives. In the middle of your own stories, you keep helping missionaries like myself and others; I appreciate your praying and giving to HMI BC, I really do.

Jack and Karen Driebergen
and me in Victoria -again,
faithful team mates
This month I had the privilege of attending the BCHL All Star game and banquet in Victoria. The relationships that have been made are growing all the time, and I thank the Lord for that. I had the honour to pray for the All Star banquet, and say a few words about BCHL Chaplaincy. It is a surreal feeling to walk up to the podium at a completely secular event, and be able to speak and pray in the name of Jesus Christ. I sense a level of respect in the BCHL for chaplaincy that is definitely growing.

At the All Star game, I had a real good talk with the coach of the Langley Chiefs Junior A club. While there is nothing firm yet, it looks like a chapel program may be in the future for the Chiefs. Please pray with me about that. Langley is one of three BC Junior A clubs with no chapel program as of now. There is also an opening with another club, but this journey has just started.

During my stay in Victoria, I gave a short report on Sunday morning at Glad Tidings Church. The response was very encouraging. I was also honoured to attend the office dedication and celebration of Leading Influence Ministries, a chaplaincy ministry to the MLA's in our provincial parliament.

On the way to Victoria, I stopped and visited with Emil and Wendy Fernandes. They are consistently working with the Abbotsford Junior B Pilots. Please lift them up in prayer as they shine a light in the arena in Abbotsford.

I also had a day in Provincial court in Penticton, supporting some fine people in their struggle for justice. It is all part of a chaplain's close relationships.

Back on the home front, I had a meeting with one of our marketing directors, where we talked freely about a relationship with Jesus.

Also, the HMI BC Regional Council gathered together to pray and review all that is happening in the growth and progress of HMI BC. One more thing; I am in communication with one of our local newspapers about a chaplaincy article. I believe that this will happen soon. It would be good to increase the visibility of the work of HMI here in BC. If the paper will carry the message for us, I am grateful to the Lord for that.

One more exciting thing.... in our Junior A club, we are starting this year to give a Chapel program award. At the annual Awards Dinner, which is held after the regular season is complete, the chapel award will be given to the graduating player who shows leadership, dedication and consistency in the Westside Warriors Chaplaincy program. I thank one of our local realtors for sponsoring this award.

Thank you for your interest and input concerning the HMI/Evangel email that I recently sent. There has been wonderful supportive response. I know how important it is to be a team, and I do appreciate your cheering me on to greater things for the Kingdom. You are a major part of this story. To God be the Glory.
