Hockey Ministry in BC

HMI is a Christian missions organization that focuses on making a difference for Christ in hockey arenas all over the world. HMI has two main focuses, one being local chapel programs and the other, HMI Christian summer hockey schools.

Personally, I am privileged to be a part of two ministries here in Kelowna. I serve in Evangel as a part time Community Pastor and also part time with Hockey Ministries International as the BC Representative.

I have seen chapel programs grow in Junior Hockey to the point where all teams in the WHL now have a chapel program, and 14 of 16 teams in BC Junior A hockey have chapels. These are Christian based chapels, which help players make some great choices, both spiritually and in everyday life.

Let me describe some of my involvement with chaplaincy. Provincially, I travel on a regular basis, with a vision of planting new chapel programs with more hockey clubs. Locally, I have a chapel every two weeks with the Westside Junior A Warriors, which is very well attended. I am asked often to have personal appointments with players, fans, and team staff. Involvement also includes team functions such as Awards banquets, occasional road trips, singing the National Anthem, weddings, etc.

It is a joy to serve God is this corner of Canadian culture. The world of hockey needs Christian chapels, and I am pleased to serve the Lord in this way.
