Put a house under a Christmas tree...
Mexico was a great experience for everyone. Our hosts were gracious
and helpful every step of the way. We enjoyed getting to know Erika
and her three children and the other neighboring families while we wer
building the home. We pooled our funds and purchases several much
needed items for Erika and her children; a table and chairs, microwave
and two sets of bunk beds, amongst other items. We left here with a
strong sense of having been blessed by blessing others. Praise God!
Thanks for all your support.
Christmas Mexico House is mission accomplished. We raised over $3600 towards the
project in addition to donations towards team expenses. Thank you!
Team Leader, Greg Harris, writes, "...It took us 5 days to build this house,
longer than normal because we had a few challenges. We had to redesign
the roof beams and then custom make some cross beams. We logged some
long days. We are all healthy even after eating at a roadside taco stand.
When we turned the house keys over to Erika and her children it was a pretty
emotional moment for many. We invested an additional $1400 in the project
by buying beds and a table and chairs and other items. Without these they
had just a good dry home.
Erika literally danced toward the front door while holding her daughters hand
before she got to the front door. There was quite a crowd gathered out front
and I had a hard time speaking to everyone because of all the emotions. The
level of poverty was very high. The huts were commonly made of tar paper
and scrap wood with a blanket on the dirt for a bed. They had water nearby
which sure helped but we understand the water is the worst in Mexico...
Without a doubt it was a great trip. We were so fortunate to help out a very
needy family with a much better home. "
